Blog Task 33 - Creating An Ident

AFTER EFFECTS EVALUATION

Using the after effects to create an ident for my groups film was fairly simple. I was satisfied with the outcome of my ident. The ident I created is unusual and looks more like something that an independent company would use therefore we are unsure whether mine will be used for the final edit of our film as we would rather have ours produced by a mainstream company.

DISTRIBUTION COMPANIES

Which Institution/Studio will Distribute our Film?

I think that the institute or studio who might distribute our film would be 'Lionsgate Film'.

Lionsgate are a film production/distribution studio who distribute mainstream films (E.g. The Hunger Games Trilogy) and less mainstream/limited release films (E.g. LOL: a film from 2012).

6 MINUTE CHALLENGE - INDIVIDUAL REFLECTION ON IDEAS

                                              6 Minute Challenge Evaluation

The 6 minute challenge is a creative thinking activity where we were tasked with coming up with a film and title sequence idea within 6 minutes. We were given a random prop, title and main setting.

How easy was it to come up with an idea?

The random prop, location and title we picked out were a golf club (Prop), a city park (Location) and Shuvtysu River (Film title). At first we found it difficult to come up with ideas particularly because none of us could recall a film we had watched that included a golf club for a main prop. However eventually we managed to come up with an idea that suit the prop, title and location we where given.

The plot and title sequence.

It took our group a bit of time to figure out a suitable idea, however we settled on a hybrid drama/romance film. The plot of the film involved two characters who meet at a convention for golf lovers after both winning the golden golf club at the convention. They then meet again near the Shuvysu River and quickly begin to fall in love. The film would document their relationship.

With the main storyline outlined it was then easier to storyboard the title sequence. The title sequence we decided would introduce the two main characters as well as involve golf, as it is integral to the plot. The 10 shots for the title sequence were:

1) Extreme close up of a hand holding a golf club, getting ready to shoot the ball.
2) Wide shot of the character hitting the ball into the air.
3) Medium shot of the character watching the ball fly away. This shot also helps establish one of the films main characters.
4) High angle of the ball flying in the air
5) Close up shot of the ball landing on the ground next to the next characters feet. The ball guides us to the next bit of action.
6) Medium shot of another main character whom the ball landed next to their feet. This establishes another character
7) Two shot of the main character and a stock character speaking.
8) Wide shot. The first character comes into shot to retrive his golf ball.
9) Over the shoulder shot of the first character (the protagonist) glancing at the second character whilst she is oblivious and continues with her conversation
10) Long shot of the protagonist walking back to where they first were, they look back at the woman whilst walking accidentally tripping and falling in the process. The title of the film then appears.

There would also be a non diegetic backing track which - would be a cheesy love song -to accompany the action and guide the audience through the title sequence.

I think our idea was successful as it has typical rom - com conventions and if where a real film would be appealing to the audience. There is a variety of shots and quite a bit o

Would you use your 6 minute challenge idea for your coursework?

Personally I wouldn't want to use this idea for my groups coursework project because although I like the idea it is very cliche and I wouldn't particularly want to use the Rom-com genre for the coursework project.

6 MINUTE CHALLENGE

6 Minute challenge

for the 6 minute challenge we were given a location and a prop to use, then using wiki random we had to randomly choice the name of our film. then we had 6 minutes to come up with an overview of our film and out we will structure a title sequence for out film idea, also we had thought of 6 shot types for out title sequence.

how easy was it to come up with the idea?

After we were given the location, a prop and after choosing a film name after all of that,  it was pretty easy to work from there.  ideas just started flowing from there, and everyone in the group added something on. also after deciding on the genre that we would like our film to be it was even easier after that. I think is was quite easy to come up with ideas because we already had all the bases to structure the title sequence.

how easy was it to decide how to open a film with a title sequence for your idea?

Deciding how to open the title sequence was a little harder than coming up with the general idea of the film, because we didn't want to give everything away about the film only from the title sequence we still wanted to keep the viewers excited and interested to watch the rest of the film.

how successful do you think our idea was?

I believe that our group was successful at the 6-minute challenge because in that our group came up with a good film idea, we had time to think of a title sequence in which we decided to introduce the characters in. and at the end, we still managed to think of 6 shots and also draw a storyboard.

would you use your 6-minute challenge idea for your coursework film?

no, i don't think me and my group would use this film idea because this is not the genre me and  my group would like to use four our final coursework.

6 Minute Challenge - Reflection on Ideas

How easy was it to come up with an idea?

I think that it was a fairly reasonable task to come up with ideas as a group. I think that it was made easier because we randomly selected the name of a location and a prop that we had to base our ideas around.
With this, we found it an easier task to put together a collation of all our ideas for a general story for the film.

How easy was it to decide how to open a film with a title sequence for your idea?

I think that as a group we struggled a bit at this point. This is probably because we were happy with the idea for the film, but just couldn't think of how that particular film would open. Also, we didn't how much of our ideas from before we should have incorporated into the title sequence.

How successful do you think the idea was?

Our idea as concept idea for a film was fairly good. However, I think that our ideas for the actual title sequence for the film weren't as good.
I think this because the idea could have been a bit more creative. Also, I think that having to think of ideas for a shotlist and storyboard in that same restricted amount of time was a bit difficult to do in addition to thinking of the actual idea.

Would you use your 6 minute challenge idea for you coursework film?

I don't think that me and my group would agree that our idea for the 6 minute challenge was our best idea possible. Because of this, I wouldn't use the 6 minute challenge idea as our final one.
I think that given more time and more creativity, we could come up with a better idea for our coursework film.
